More than a hundred people went to Our Lady of Caysasay Academy last March 2, 2019, Saturday, for a blood donation program in collaboration with Red Cross Batangas, Our Lady of Caysasay Medical Center, and Taal PNP.
The gates of the school opened before 8 o’clock in the morning to accommodate incoming visitors, parents, alumni, and students who wished to contribute to this activity. Teachers and STEM students assist visitors in the registration, screening, and rations.
People were patiently waiting for their turn as teachers announce the dos and don’ts when donating blood. “Because I want to save lives. I know that a simple amount of blood can help many lives,” Erika Biscocho, a grade 12 student, said when she was asked why she attended the activity. She is of legal age and it was her first time being a donor.
Not only students and alumni were willing to donate but also the teachers. Sir Richmond of the Upper BED, a first-time donor, stated that he participated so that he can be of help to other people even in a little way and to also generate new blood in his system. He was kind of nervous before donating, but he said that the experience itself is okay.
Mr. Eugene Balba, age 36, also participated in the program. He is a walk-in donor and is consistently donating blood every three months. He said, “Para malinis ang dugo ko and at the same time, makatulong sa ibang tao.” Trans: “To cleanse my blood and at the same time, to help other people.”
It is true that donating blood is beneficial to the donor’s health and will be to the beneficiaries. This activity is done annually by the school and is always supported by the staffs, parents, and students so most probably, this will continue in the future.
